Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addiction Mike Ellis issued the following statement on International Self-Care Day:

More than 2.8 million Albertans have rolled up their sleeves to protect themselves, their loved ones and their communities from COVID-19.

Alberta’s government will invest nearly $8 million to support Indigenous-led efforts to care for mental health, including supporting the healing of residential school survivors and their families.

Alberta’s government and a coalition of businesses have partnered to launch a new mobile vaccination clinic focusing on worksites, rural and hard-to-reach communities.

Alberta will become the second province in Canada to screen all newborns for spinal muscular atrophy so they can be treated earlier and more effectively.

Up to $7.3 million will support the expansion of youth mental health hubs, which provide young Albertans with a one-stop shop for services that improve their mental health and overall wellness. 

More than five million doses of vaccine have now been administered provincewide, helping protect Albertans from COVID-19.

Alberta’s government is moving forward with a new 50-bed recovery community and adding an additional 11 publicly funded residential recovery beds to the community of Lethbridge. 

More than $4 million has been invested to expand hemodialysis services and upgrade air exchange systems at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary.

Calgary’s first cyclotron and a new radiopharmaceutical facility will improve access to diagnostic tests and treatment for cancer, cardiac and neurological conditions.
